Overview of the Singapore O Levels Biology Syllabus

The Singapore O Levels Biology syllabus is divided into three main sections:

  • Theme 1: Cell Biology

  • Theme 2: Ecology and Environment

  • and Theme 3: Human Biology

Each theme comprises several subtopics that provide a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

Theme 1: Cell Biology

The Cell Biology theme covers the fundamental concepts of biology, including the characteristics of living organisms, the structure and function of cells, and the various cell processes. Students will learn about the different types of cells, their structures, and their functions. They will also learn about the various organelles present in cells, such as the nucleus, mitochondria, and chloroplasts. Additionally, students will study the processes of photosynthesis and respiration, as well as the cell cycle and mitosis.

Theme 2: Ecology and Environment

The Ecology and Environment theme covers the study of the interactions between living organisms and their environment. Students will learn about the various ecosystems and the different biotic and abiotic factors that affect them. They will also study the different levels of organization within an ecosystem, such as the population, community, and ecosystem levels. Additionally, students will learn about the various environmental issues that affect our planet, such as pollution, global warming, and deforestation.

Theme 3: Human Biology

The Human Biology theme covers the study of the human body and its systems. Students will learn about the various organs and systems in the human body, such as the circulatory system, respiratory system, and digestive system. They will also study the processes of homeostasis and immunity. Additionally, students will learn about the different types of diseases and disorders that affect the human body.
